My Experience Officiating at Smokemont Church
Smokemont Church has a quiet reverence that's difficult to describe until you've stood inside it. I love watching couples pause for a moment before the ceremony begins, taking in the simplicity of the space and the history surrounding them. One of my favorite moments at Smokemont is watching a couple ring the church bell together immediately after their ceremony. It's a wonderful way to celebrate the beginning of their marriage while honoring the character of this historic mountain church.

1. Can you get married at Smokemont Church?
Yes. Smokemont Church is one of the designated wedding locations in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Weddings require a National Park Service Special Use Permit and must follow the park's current wedding guidelines. 2. Is the church still used for weddings?
Yes. Smokemont Church remains one of the park's designated ceremony locations and is a popular choice for intimate weddings.
3. How many guests can attend a wedding at Smokemont Church?
50 people, 1½ hours of use, and 8 vehicles.
4. Is Smokemont Church climate controlled?
Sort of, lol. There is air conditioning, but it isn't fabulous. The building is historic, so dress comfortably for the season. There is electric lighting.
5. Can we decorate Smokemont Church for a wedding?
Decorations are very limited because Smokemont Church is a protected historic structure. The National Park Service allows discreet floral arrangements and battery-powered candles, but prohibits items such as runners, balloons, arches, open flames, confetti, flower petals and similar props. Furnishings cannot be moved or altered. Always check the current NPS permit conditions before your ceremony.
